"Folly Dunes" is named after my childhood beach, Folly Beach, located on Folly Island, a barrier island off the coast of South Carolina near Charleston. Sea oats growing in the warm, white sand delight us as they blow sinuously in ocean breezes. But they serve another purpose as their strong roots hold in place the loose soil of the dunes, preserving them during hurricane season.
